A (self) Love Letter to your Inner Child

Hey baby girl,

I hope you know how beautiful you are and how proud I am of you. You are such a good little girl. You are talented, brave, strong, and intelligent. I love the way you dance and your healthy appetite.

I know sometimes you wish you could look like the other girls, be as fast as them, or have grades like them. I want you to know that no matter what, I am proud of you.

Most of the time, it’s not easy being a woman. We are faced with all kinds of things. People might be mean and say nasty things. Boys might break your heart. I want you to know right now that you will be able to handle all of that.

It’s okay to cry and be sad. It’s okay to cry and be happy. It’s okay to be angry. It’s definitelyokay for you to stand up for yourself.

If someone does something you don’t like, you have every right to tell them. You have every right to say your opinion and what’s on your mind. When speaking out, remember to always be good and kind.

There will be some people that will make you feel funny on the inside when you’re around them. That feeling you get is your intuition. I want you to know that you can trust it. You don’t have to be around people who don’t make you feel good on the inside.

Being liked and popular feels nice sometimes but, it is not as important as being good, kind, and sticking to your values.  Your values are the things that are important to like family, friendship, playfulness, and beauty. You get to pick your own values. That’s the beauty of not just being a girl but being a human on this planet.

There will be pressure from the outside world to look and act a certain way. I want you to know that you don’t have to do anything that doesn’t feel good to you. If something doesn’t feel good, you get to speak your mind and ask about it.

You will hurt people’s feelings sometimes. Remember to forgive yourself when you make a mistake and apologize whenever you can. Not because you want them to like you but because you are sorry your actions made someone feel bad.

There will be things you do in your life that make you so happy. Maybe it’s reading, coloring, writing, dancing, or being around other people. Whatever it is, that is your gift to the world. You get to treasure it and practice it until you are a master. One day, the big people will pay you for this wonderful gift. Never let anyone tell you that you can’t have that gift.

As you grow older, you will have dreams to create something big. You have to chase that dream. You have to do whatever it takes to make it happen (as long as you are being good and kind). There will be people that might try to stop you and it won’t feel good in the moment. I want you to know that you can overcome that and you don’t have to listen to anyone who tries to make you feel bad.

If you love it, it is meant to be yours.

Oh baby girl, I love you so much. You are so beautiful. Not because of what you look like but because of who you are.

Love,

The woman you are growing up to be
